King Tut Toronto Exhibit

KING TUT: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs

The experience of a lifetime awaits you at this all-new blockbuster exhibition!

King Tut ascended to the throne when he was only 8 years old, died in 1343 B.C at the age of 19 and was entombed in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. His reign was only moderately significant and many historians believe he was quickly forgotten. However, King Tut became Ancient Egypt's most famous pharaoh when his tomb was discovered almost completely intact by Howard Carter in 1922. All other royal tombs had been completely empty when discovered, thanks to gold-hungry tomb-raiders.

For five months, the Art Gallery of Ontario will display these priceless treasures in an exhibition titled King Tut: The Golden King and the Great Pharaohs. This King Tut Toronto exhibition features 50 objects from the tomb of Tutankhamun including the solid gold sandals that adorned the mummy's feet and a beautifully adorned canopic jar that mummified his internal organs.

In addition to the treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamun, 80 ancient artifacts are featured, which highlight many of the most significant rulers of ancient Egypt such as Khefren, whose great pyramid is the only remaining structure of the seven wonders of the ancient world and Hatshepsut, the queen who became king.

A Unique Opportunity in North America

Three decades after the 1979 King Tut exhibit shattered the museum's attendance records, the story of king Tutankhamun, Egyptian's long lost boy king, who died suddenly and under mysterious circumstances returns with an almost entirely different selection of treasures, many of which will be on display for the first time ever in North America. This King Tut Exhibition is no small event, and one not to be missed. Tickets are on sale at the AGO ticket office.
